Located in Maple Valley, Washington, Nature Nuts is an educational program that is all about reconnecting kids with nature. Started in 2004, lead instructor Brenda Running has helped children gain knowledge of plants, animals, survival skills and sustainability while letting kids be kids by enjoying the outdoors. It has thus expanded into a nonprofit organization that includes many programs such as Family Nature Club, Summer Camp and year-round outdoor preschool. Kids come home happy, more confident and covered in nature!
I wanted the primary logo to reflect Nature Nuts’ earthy, lighthearted, animal-loving personality and drew the shapes and letters in a way that looked a bit like they were carved out of wood. I really just wanted to create a brand that is FUN and will encourage parents to sign their kids up for an after school activity under the sun. The squirrel is based off of Washington’s native Douglas Squirrel (Nature Nuts’ mascot) while the green and brown colors were chosen to stand out in Facebook ads contrasted against the blue-heavy background since that will be Nature Nuts’ main social media avenue.
